This course aims to develop students’ knowledge, understanding and skills of the principles of IT and Global Information Systems. Students will gain an insight into the IT sector as they investigate the pace of technological change, IT infrastructure, the flow of information on a global scale and the importance of legal and security considerations Extra-Curricular Opportunities: IIn the summer term of Year 12, pupils make a day trip to Thorpe Park to undertake classes where they can see IT in action linked with a very high level of health and safety which is implemented across the park Additional Support: An Excel based tracking tool is used to monitor the progress of students with personalised learning checklists and exam practice questions to encourage independent learning and improve their understanding of the course. Links to additional resources and industry vendors are shared to provide a practical perspective of theories studied in lessons. In addition to students taking control of their own learning, we carry out scheduled checks to ensure students are on track to exceed expectations Progression Pathways: Students will develop professional, personal and social skills through interaction with peers and providing solutions for stakeholders and clients. This applied pathway is recognised by industry leaders such as Cisco, IBM, CompTIA and Barclays. IT is a useful and often necessary subject to seek certification in certain careers, for example: network management, software development, games development, web developer, app developer, data analyst, network engineer, cyber security consultant, IT technical support, cloud analyst and cloud technician.
