The Sport And Physical Activity course has been designed with the sport sector and workplace in mind. This course provides students with the fundamental knowledge and skills required in a variety of aspects of the sporting industry. The course provides opportunities to assess students’ practical coaching skills and their academic writing ability in the coursework focused assignments. The course also allows students to develop confidence in presenting to others, coaching others and in managing projects delivered to others Extra-Curricular Opportunities: Students will be heavily involved with the Sports Leadership Programme which aims to develop younger students sporting and coaching ability. Additional Support The PE department track students’ progress through the completion of centre assessed coursework and students will receive regular exam practice followed by thorough feedback. Students will be mentored by a member of the PE team, this will include regular meetings in which the student is supported with coursework or exam preparation. Students will work closely with their mentor to develop their teaching and coaching skills. Progression Routes: Whilst gaining professional, personal and social skills there are many transferable skills such as improved communication, problem solving, time management, research and analytical skills. These skills are essential for a number of different careers and certification for careers such as: sports coach, athlete, PE teacher, sports journalist, personal trainer, fitness instructor, sports marketing, sports therapist, leisure centre manager, sports scientist, performance analyst and sports nutritionist.
