Course summary

A level Physics is suitable if you: • want to enquire about the most fundamental concepts governing the universe. • enjoy applying your mind to solving problems • want to use Physics to progress onto further studies in Higher Education or support other qualifications or enter Physics based employment. A Level Physics can open up a range of careers and higher education courses in engineering, architecture, mathematics, actuarial science, physics, astrophysics dentistry, banking and medicine. Physics can also help gain direct entry into employment, especially into the scientific and related sectors. Lectures and practical work. Edexcel A level Physics gives you the opportunity to study a core of key concepts in greater details. Many of the ideas first covered at GCSE will be revisited but with a greater emphasis on explaining and deriving from first principles equations that govern fundamental Newtonian laws. Whilst studying A Level Physics you will develop practical skills that include making observations, collecting data, analysing experimental results and formulating conclusions. For A Level Physics you will study mechanics and further mechanics together, electricity and capacitors, materials, waves and SHM, magnetic fields and particle physics, and astrophysics. You can also enhance your understanding of physics by attending the University of London Friday evening lectures, held at UCL for sixth formers and these are free. Students can make use of Walking Talking Mocks in Physics to allow independent study, on application of knowledge to exam questions.
