Course summary

Students who • are interested in Chemistry and its applications • who want to use chemistry to progress onto further studies in Higher Education or enter a Chemistry-based employment • are taking other related A levels What can it lead to? All university courses which require Chemistry as a prerequisite. Any university course which requires an A level. A range of careers which may/may not require Higher Education. What will I Study? You will learn about the key concepts of chemistry through different modules and teaching of practical skills are integrated with the theoretical topics. Scientific knowledge is applied to investigate and solve problems in a range of contexts. How will I be taught? Through interactive lessons, discussion, practical activity, visits and independent research. Course Offer Conditions Rooks Heath expects to run courses that are offered. However, courses that do not recruit to a satisfactory level may be offered at another center or withdrawn.

Entry requirements

Minimum of 6 GCSEs at Grades 9-5 (or C and above) including both Mathematics and English Language. Specific requirements: Minimum of a grade 6 at GCSE Chemistry and a minimum of 6 in GCSE Biology or GCSE Physics or a minimum 66 in GCSE Combined Science

How you'll be assessed

AS A total of three hours assessment split over two papers both with equal weighting. A level Chemistry A total of six hours assessment split over three examination papers (2x2hour 15 minutes and 1x1 hour 30 minutes) taken at the end of the two year course Practical endorsement (only applies to A level Chemistry) This is reported separately from the A level grade (as Pass/Fail). Teacher assessed with common assessment criteria. Requires a minimum of twelve practical activities to be carried out over the two year A Level course covering a common core list of apparatus and technique usage.
