Course summary

Since September 2015 Psychology at A level has been examined in the new linear format. This means that 3 A level exams will now be taken at the end of the 2 year course. It can also be taken as an AS level subject, in which case two exams will be sat at the end of the first year. If students do continue with the subject for another year they will sit all three A level exams at the end of the second year. Who is the course for? Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behaviour. You will enjoy psychology if you have an interest in human behaviour and find the following questions interesting: Why do I behave like this? Why do I feel like this? Why do I think like this? Students will study theories and research and carry out practical work. What can it lead to? Psychology is a scientific subject and gives a good grounding for studying psychology at degree level. The skills acquired can also be beneficial in other sciences, humanities and social sciences. To pursue a career in clinical psychology students usually study a three year Psychology degree followed by two years of clinical study with work placements. Psychologists are also employed in a range of fields such as industry, education, prisons, government offices and teaching. What will I study? In the first year you will study four core types of psychology, social, cognitive, biological and learning theories, plus research methods. In the second year you will focus on clinical psychology, criminological psychology and psychological skills including further research methods. How will I be taught? Through lectures, discussion and practical activities. Visits include a trip to The Museum of the Mind, Harrow Crown Court and a visit from a practicing psychologist. Course Offer Conditions Rooks Heath expects to run courses that are offered. However, courses that do not recruit to a satisfactory level may be offered at another center or withdrawn.
