This course is for you if you are planning to study for a career in IT or Computing. It will develop your core knowledge, skills and understanding of many different aspects of IT and computing, and is designed to meet employer requirements in contemporary IT-related industries and careers. Units studied on the Foundation Diploma in Year 1 are: Unit 1: Information Technology Systems (Externally assessed via exam) Unit 2: Creating Systems to Manage Information (Externally assessed via exam) Unit 3: Using Social Media in Business (Internally assessed) NB - Learners enrolled on the smaller Extended Certificate qualification will complete Units 1 - 3, plus ONE further internally assessed unit (TBC). If you complete the Pearson L3 Extended Certificate in IT in Year 1, in Year 2 you may progress to complete the Pearson L3 Diploma in IT, requiring you to complete a further 4 units. If you complete the Pearson L3 Foundation Diploma in IT in Year 1, in Year 2 you may progress to complete the Pearson L3 Extended Diploma in IT, requiring you to complete a further 7 units. Following the completion of the Year 2 course, you may choose to continue your education at HE level, or pursue employment in a range of IT industries.
You will need: Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths or equivalent Functional Skills Level 2 qualification in both English and maths. Applicants with full Level 2 vocational qualifications in IT with an overall Merit/Distinction will be considered alongside GCSEs in English and maths grade 4 or above. NB - Applicants who have not yet achieved either English and maths qualifications at minimum Grade 4 may be considered on a case by case basis. In this case, learners will be enrolled on the Extended Certificate only, and will be required to study English/Maths (as applicable) alongside the main IT course. During the interview, they will also be required to submit a good reference from a recent teacher recommending them for the course.
You will be assessed through externally examinations and internally assessed portfolio work. Internally assessed work is assessed by the teaching team, and externally moderated by Pearson.
