Course Outline: The duration of the course is either one year to gain an AS award or two years for the full A level qualification. Skills: Economics is about choice and the impact of our choices on each other. It relates to every aspect of our lives, from the decisions we make as individuals or families to the structures created by governments and firms. The economic way of thinking can help us make better choices. Economics focuses on the world economy not just Britain, and looks at current problems facing governments, businesses and individuals. It is important to be interested and aware of current affairs. We expect you to regularly read a quality newspaper. The examination requires you to be competent at handling figures, statistics and also able to use and respond to economic data. Studying economics will teach you lots of transferable skills and by the end of your course you will have developed a number of employable skills, such as: analytical and critical thinking, communication skills, problem solving and quantitative methods. Future progressions from this course: Economics fits well with math's, sciences, geography and language combinations. Many students take the subject further to degree level at university and then follow a career in accountancy, business, management, finance, law or even teaching
A minimum of five GCSE grade 5s or above. Students must have at least a grade 6 in GCSE math's and a grade 9-6 in English is also a minimum requirement.
Paper 1 : Markets and Business Behaviour Themes 1&3 assessed- Written exam: 2 hours 100 marks in total 35% of A-level Paper 2: The National and Global Economy Themes 2&4 assessed- Written exam: 2 hours 100 marks in total 35% of A-level Paper 3: Microeconomics and Macroeconomics All themes- Written exam: 2 hours 100 marks in total 30% of A-level
