Course summary

Both Diploma courses in Business are designed to be taken with 1 other subject choice, which may be another Single award vocational offer or an A, level. This makes the combined package worth the equivalent of three A-levels. The Diploma in Business provides learners with the opportunity to develop a comprehensive range of business skills and personal attributes that will allow them to gain employment in business or to go on to higher study at university. The compulsory core modules develop in learners an understanding of the business environment, the management of resources, marketing and communication – all fundamental to the success of business organizations. The optional units the develop specialist skills in a particular area of Business. Learners will produce individual reports, although much of the work will be done in groups.

Assessment

•Internally assessed coursework (IC) •Externally assessed coursework (EC) – A task set and marked by the exam board and completed under supervised conditions. Learners will be given a context before a supervised assessment period in order to carry out research. •Written exam set by the exam board (E) Option 1: Edexcel National Diploma in Business Learners must complete the following SIX compulsory units: •Exploring Business (IC) •Develop a marketing campaign (EC) •Personal and business finance – (E) •Managing an event (IC) •International Business (IC) •Principles of management (EC) They will then complete the following TWO option units: •Pitching for a new business (IC) •Cost and management accounting (IC) 45% Exam 55% Internal and external coursework 42% Exam 58% Internal coursework *There is also an Accounting pathway available which requires the first 4 units above but then 6 different units, which are accountancy, based.
