The Hairdressing Level 3 Technical Diploma offers a flexible pathway to gain employment. It is suitable for adults and young learners who have completed Level 2 in hairdressing. The course aims to provide a range of specialist practical skills and knowledge which will get you ready to seek employment, run your own business or become a freelance hairdresser. You will be prepared to engage, adapt, and grow in whatever step they take next by incorporating an employability and growth mind-set curriculum. You will study this course in one academic year. You will work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training - classes or lectures given by industry experts in college We also benefit from our excellent partnerships with local and national hairdressing establishments. We urge our students to participate in national competitions and events to improve their skills and raise their confidence. You will need hairdressing equipment and the cost is approx. £200 (subject to change) which includes a uniform top. The equipment is ordered through the college at the time of enrolment, you may make an application to the Learner Support Fund for help towards the cost and this award is subject to your individual circumstances. If you are not eligible for the Learner Support Fund, you will be liable for the full cost of the equipment. Uniform in the salons is compulsory and this consists of the tunic top supplied in your equipment, you must also supply, plain black shoes with a closed in toe and heel (strictly no trainers) and plain black trousers (no leggings or jeans). Study Programme If you’re of the age 16-18 this course is part of the study programme depending on your GCSE results If you did not achieve a grade 4 GCSE in English and Maths you will need to complete either GCSE or Functional Skills at the appropriate level. The level you will complete is based on your GCSE grades or previous achievement at functional skills. You will need to bring proof of your grades in induction either the statement of achievement or your certificates. Your course also includes tutorial, mandatory work experience and workshops. Part-time Programme We recognise that a number of adults face major challenges to learning, such as a low level of English or digital skills. This qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work within the hairdressing industry. You will study the following mandatory content: Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon Consultation support for colleagues on hair services Cut women’s hair to create a variety of looks Style and dress hair using a variety of Techniques Colour hair to create a variety of looks Creative Hairdressing Design Skills Perm hair to create a variety of looks In addition, you would be expected to study an optional area – depending on campus, client demand or credit value. Human resource management within the hair and beauty sector Provide hair extension services Make and style a Hair Addition Create an Image Based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector Promote products and services to clients in a salon To achieve the Hairdressing Diploma, you must successfully complete the mandatory assessment components these are on-line assessments and on-going practical assessments.
