What will I learn? The qualification gives learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin study of the sport and exercise science sector, and gives learners additional breadth and depth to prepare them fully for further study or training. How is the course structured? There are 7 compulsory units that all students study these are Applied Research Methods in Sport and Exercise Science, Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology, Coaching for Performance and Fitness, Field and Laboratory-based Fitness Testing, Functional Anatomy, Nutrition for Sport and Exercise Performance, Sport and Exercise Physiology. Students will then study a further 6 units chosen by the department.
25 points minimum at GCSE including a 4 in Maths and English. If students have studied a L2 Sport qualification they must have obtained a Merit in order to start the course, or a Grade 6 in GCSE PE In order to study a Level 3 Vocational Course students will generally need to obtain a minimum total point score of 25, this is equivalent to 5 GCSE’s at Grade 5, these must include Mathematics and either English Language or English Literature.
Units 1 and 2 are assessed by 1.5 hour written examinations set by the exam board. Units 3 and 13 are assessed 3 hour assessments where students complete a task set by the exam board under supervised conditions. All other units are assessed by completion of the coursework tasks for each unit, these are marked by your teachers and moderated by the exam board.
