The A Level in geography will encourage you to look at the physical nature of the planet and the influence human activity has on it. You will study topics in human geography (regeneration of urban and rural areas etc), and phycial geography (coastal processes, water security, energy, etc). With climate change and environmental issues high on everyone's agenda, geography remains an important course of study. You will be encouraged to look at the physical nature of the planet and the influence human activity has on it. Changes in population structures and the impacts of increased urbanisation and globalisation will also be covered in the human geography section, while extreme weather events, watercourses, tectonic activity and natural disasters will be studied in physical geography.
You will need 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including: • English Language (Grade 4) • Maths (Grade 4) • A humanities subject (Grade 4) • Plus, three other GCSEs at grade 4. Following your application you will normally be offered a place subject to achieving the entry requirements and attending a welcome taster.
This course is assessed solely by examination, with exams scheduled for May/June at the end of the second year.
