History is the study and recreation of the past using historical sources. It is a subject that depends on controversy, disagreement and differing opinions. This A-Level course includes the following topics: Unit 1: British period study and enquiry—Tudor government 1509–1558. This unit covers the reigns of three Tudor monarchs, Henry VIII, Edward VI and Mary I. Unit 2: European period study—Germany 1919–1963. This unit includes study of Germany during the period of the Weimar Republic, the Nazi period of rule and during the post-war period when Germany was divided into East and West. Unit 3: Coursework personal study Unit 4: Civil rights in the USA—1865–1992. This unit covers the struggle for civil rights amongst four groups in American society, black Americans, native Americans, women and labour.
To be discussed at Sixth Form application interview. We expect students to have a good Attitude to Learning score and high attendance and attainment. Offers made after interview will include specific requirements relevant to each student and all students will receive a bespoke offer letter after interview. Most subjects have an entry requirement of a Grade 6. Students must have achieved a Grade 4 in English and Maths.
