This subject is for those who have with an interest in current affairs, how the UK and the global economies work, especially given Covid-19, an open and questioning mind, and an ability to relate theoretical models to real-life scenarios. What can it lead to? Employment opportunities, where economics skills will be particularly valued, include business management and consultancy, banking, finance, investment, media, journalism, corporate law, marketing, and politics. What will I study? AS Level This one year qualification won’t count towards the final grade of an A Level, but is regarded as a separate, stand-alone qualification. The AS qualification comprises two components: (i) Microeconomics - 1 hour 30 minutes written paper (50% of total AS Level) (ii) Macroeconomics – 1 hour 30 minutes written paper (50% of total AS Level) Microeconomics examines the way that markets function, the role that they play in the allocation of scarce resources, market failures and government intervention. Macroeconomics looks at how national and international governments use economic policy to achieve stable economic growth alongside low inflation, high employment and a healthy trade balance How will I be taught? Through class discussions and debate, case studies, independent research and practical work.
Minimum of 6 GCSEs at Grades 9-5 (or C and above) including both Mathematics and English Language.
