Course summary

The study of Panjabi provides many opportunities to develop an understanding of spiritual, moral and cultural issues. Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to form opinions and make judgments within the context, be these historical or contemporary, ethnic or religious. This form of study is essential: ● To enable students to develop and build on the skills acquired at GCSE. ● To enhance employment prospects. ● To facilitate foreign travel. ● To provide an insight into another culture and society. ● To provide students with a sound basis for further study. Students must study the themes and sub-themes below in relation to the Punjab. Students must study the themes and subthemes using a range of sources, including material from online media. Social issues and trends: ● Aspects of Panjabi-speaking society: past and current trends ● Youth culture ● The evolution of the digital world Aspects of Panjabi-speaking society: ● Past and current issues ● Educational diversity and social mobility ● Impact of migration on Punjab Political and artistic culture: ● Artistic culture in the Panjabi-speaking world past & present ● Festivals and traditions ● Cultural life in Punjab Literary texts and films Students must study either one text and one film or two texts from the list below: Texts Boota Singh Shaad: Noori (Novel) Gurmel Singh Bainiwal: Ristian de Rang (Short Story) Mohan Singh: Savee Pattar (Poetry) Films Asa Nu Maan Watna Daa: Manmohan Singh (2004) Jatt and Juliet 2: Anurag Singh (2013) Research topics Students will research the following topics; The role of women in Panjabi society-Social issues in the Punjab-Tourism in the Punjab-Partition of Punjab in 1947.

Grade 6 in GCSE Punjabi.
