How will I learn? The course is based on the interaction between the theory and practice of Physical Education. The focus of A level Physical Education is on participation and performance in physical activity as part of a balanced, active and healthy lifestyle. What will I learn? Component 1 Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport (35%) 105 marks (2 hour written paper) ·Applied anatomy and physiology ·Skill acquisition ·Sport & society Component 2 Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity (35%) 105 marks (2 hour written paper) ·Exercise physiology & biomechanics ·Sports psychology ·Sport and society and technology in sport Component 3 Non-exam assessment practical performance (30%) 90 marks ·45 marks player/performer or coach ·45 marks written or verbal analysis & evaluation of performance What can I do at the end of the course? The course provides an excellent foundation for students who wish to pursue careers as health care professionals e.g. physio or paramedic, teaching secondary or primary education, sports development/leisure and recreation management, sports media, sports journalism and the health and fitness industry.
At least three GCSEs at Grade 6 or above in relevant subjects and GCSE English Language and Mathematics at Grade 4 or above. Students must have taken GCSE PE achieving a Grade 5 or above in the theory exams and as an overall grade and a Grade 5 or above in Science. Practically, they must participate in one sport at school or club level.
