If you are over 16 years old and have an interest in sports performance, sports leadership or fitness, the BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Sport at Barnet and Southgate College may be for you. This course is designed to equip you with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for successful employment in the sport and recreation industries but it also prepares you for a higher national or undergraduate degree programme in Physical Education, Sports Science, Sports development or Sports coaching. On completion of this ONE YEAR programme the Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to 1.5 A levels. In this one year course (Foundation Diploma), you will study a range of topics including Anatomy & Physiology; Fitness Training and Programming; Sports Leadership; Fitness Testing. As part of our full-time study programme, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and you will also be required to attend training with your chosen academy.
To get on this course you are required to have 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C), including English, Maths and preferably P.E. Applicants with a BTEC L2 Certificate in Sport require a Merit grade, with English and maths GCSEs at a minimum grade 4. You must have an interest and choose from one of the following academies on your application: Athletics; Basketball; Football; Tennis; Boxing or Leadership. It would be ideal that you have previous experience playing competitive sport however, not necessary to secure a placement on the course.
A range of assessments will take place throughout the course including: 4 exams (external assessment); practical assessments; written assignments; presentations and workbooks.
