Course summary

WHY STUDY THIS COURSE? The sports industry is one of the fastest growing in the world, with the various elements of performance on and off the field being placed under a microscopic lens. Whether it’s the physiological or psychological, sport is affected in many different ways. You will look at how performance is affected by various factors, whilst also taking a trip on a timeline into the history of sport in the UK and the impact that sport has had sociologically throughout time. This subject will cover the widest breadth of information, so you will be able to learn about all the different facets of sport. COURSE DESCRIPTION You will be assessed in four units over the course durations. Two external written exams and two internal assessments which are coursework based. Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology · 1.5 hour examination with a mix of short and long questions. · In order to appreciate how each of the body systems function, you will explore the structure of the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory and energy systems as well as additional factors which affect sport and exercise performance. Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being · This unit will be assessed under supervised conditions. You will be given a case study one week before the supervised assessment period to carry out preparatory work. · The supervised assessment period is a maximum of 2.5 hours as timetabled by Pearson. Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry This is an internally assessed piece of work, centred around the four following learning aims: · Understand the career and job opportunities in the sports industry. · Explore own skills using a skills audit to inform a career development action plan. · Undertake a recruitment activity to demonstrate the processes that can lead to a successful job offer in a selected career pathway. · Reflect on the recruitment and selection process and your individual performance. Unit 5: Application of Fitness Testing Learners gain an understanding of the requirements of fitness testing and learn how to safely conduct a range of fitness tests for different components of fitness. In this unit you will: · Understand the principles of fitness testing · Explore fitness tests for different components of fitness · Undertake evaluation and feedback of fitness test results

How you'll be assessed

Pearson's BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Sport is a vocational qualification. The course is designed for learners who are interested in learning various aspects of the sports industry. The world of sport is an ever changing landscape and more roles and responsibilities are created year on year and this qualification is an ideal starting point for a student to get an excellent base of knowledge before progressing onto specialise in a chosen field in higher education. The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate is equivalent to one GCE A Level. You can achieve the following points for your grades.
