Course summary
English Literature covers a variety of texts from the 17th to 21st century and you will explore the past and present through drama, prose and poetry. You will need to be a keen reader to discover perspectives, ideas, beliefs, values and investigate the varying contexts of writers by exploring cultural, social, historical and political influences. Interpretation is key and you will engage in close reading, analytical writing and debates to explore the significance and influence of the way literary texts are written and received. You will also develop your own coursework portfolio of 3,000 words on three modern texts.
