Course summary

Art is a course that is both enjoyable and rewarding. It’s a chance for you to unlock your creativity and experiment with a range of media, including drawing, painting, digital media and printing. Building on prior skills and knowledge you will develop techniques in a range of artistic styles. You will explore and gain an understanding of the visual world around you and investigate ways to record images and develop your knowledge of genres in art and art history. The course emphasises the importance of independent learning and self-directed research, exploration and experimentation. Art is not only for students who wish to pursue a career in the artistic industry, it will allow you to develop transferable skills such as problem solving, contextual thinking, analysis and greater visual literacy. Gallery visits are an integral part of the course and students will be encouraged to visit a galleries in their own time as well as planned visits in school.

Please use the following when calculating average point score: BTEC subjects (Distinction star= 8, Distinction=7, Merit=5.5, Pass=4) Students must have at least a GCSE grade 5 or above in Maths and English Additional GCSE Criteria: Art 6 (Can show evidence through art portfolio if not previously studied) *We will consider each student’s application on an individual basis. Students who achieve a high 5 in English or Maths would be considered for entry into the Sixth Form.
