This course enables you to become knowledgeable about current affairs and the political issues which drive them. What can it lead to? A wide range of higher education courses and careers in law, politics, the media, education, business and management. How will I be taught? By a variety of methods including discussion and debate, video and documentary work. What will I study? Big concepts such as power, authority, and rights come up throughout the course, alongside a deeper look at British politics, American politics and political theory. This would include topics such as electoral systems, voting behaviour, legislatures, and pressure groups as well as theories such as nationalism and feminism. You will learn about Government and Politics of the UK and across a globe thinking about what is politics and why is it important? The role of power of pressure groups and the nature of political parties. The Constitution and how it has changed. We examine the importance of power sharing systems. You will also learn about the Political Theories and Ideas that have shaped our political system such as Conservativism, socialism and liberalism. Are there links to other courses? Yes, just about all social science and humanities subjects, but in particular Sociology, Law and History. Course Offer Conditions Harrow Sixth Form Collegiate expects to run courses that are offered. However, courses that do not recruit to a satisfactory level may be offered at another centre or withdrawn.
