• It is NOT instead of a students’ A Levels but an enrichment subject in addition to their 3 main subjects • The qualification is worth an additional 28 UCAS points, Graded A* to E (A* - 28, A – 24, B – 20, C – 16, D – 12, E – 8) • Outcomes in the form of a dissertation, with final oral presentation • Aids the development of many key skills which are valued by both employers and universities. Skills such as: Independent learning Research Critical thinking • It is an opportunity for students to show academic commitment to their chosen subject and also to explore a topic they enjoy for its own sake • In our Sixth Form, students will choose either Core Maths or the EPQ in addition to their programme of study. For a topic of choice, students will create a project by a process of: • Managing objectives • Using resources • Developing and evaluating the outcome • The topic can either complement a students’ current studies or be based on future interests
• Achieving 5 Grade 5s including GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics • Grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics
The course will be assessed using the grading criteria set by Edexcel and will be graded from G A*. The assessment for this course will be 100% coursework although there is a presentation element that student are required to complete in order to achieve a grade from the EPQ. The course will run from September till February which will allow students to complete the course early enough that it should not interfere with other subject deadlines or revision for end of year examinations.
