Course summary

PROVISIONAL COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You should have achieved an Average Point Score across all your GCSE subjects of 4+. It is desirable but not essential to have studied Product Design at GCSE. AIM OF THE COURSE Product Design offers candidates an opportunity to gain personal satisfaction and positive experience from working with a variety of materials. Students will investigate historical, social, cultural and environmental influences on design and technology, whilst enjoying opportunities to put their learning in to practice by producing products of their choice. A LEVEL SUMMARY This is a two-year course. In the first year; students will be expected to work through a thematic project and produce an electronic portfolio. Students will not sit an exam. In the second year; students will continue their own personal response and produce a final piece of work. They will also be expected to write an essay on their chosen theme. In February students will be given an exam paper and they will then begin their preparatory work. The final piece will be produced in a 15-hour exam in the summer term.
