Course summary

Pure mathematics builds on the algebra and trigonometry work you would have done at GCSE but introduces calculus into the mixture. Mechanics will involve vectors, kinematics, forces, and Newton’s laws. Statistics focuses on sampling, interpretation of data, probability, the introduction to statistical distributions, and hypothesis testing. If you enjoy algebra, you’ll likely enjoy your time studying Mathematics at AS and A-Level. You will study a mixture of pure mathematics, mechanics, and statistics. An A-Level in Mathematics is extremely useful in a multitude of fields. It is essential if you want to study Mathematics or Physics at university, and some universities will require it to study Computer Science, Economics, or Engineering. It is also accepted as a strong qualification for a multitude of popular fields, including Medicine, Biology, Chemistry, and Optometry.
