What will you study? Module 1 – Development of practical skills in physics Module 2 – Foundation of physics •Physical quantities, units and measurement •Nature of quantities Module 3 – Forces and Motion •Motion •Forces in action •Work, energy and power •Material •Newton’s laws of motion Module 4 – Electrons, waves and photons •Electricity: charge and current •Electricity: energy, power and resistance •Electricity: electrical circuit •Waves •Quantum physics Module 5 – Newtonian world and astrophysics •Thermal physics •Circular motion •Oscillations •Gravitational fields •Astrophysics and cosmology Module 6 – Particles and medical physics •Capacitors •Electric fields •Electromagnetism •Nuclear and particle physics •Medical imaging What skills will you develop? As learners progress through the course they will build on their knowledge of the laws of Physics, applying their understanding to solve problems on topics ranging from sub-atomic particles to the entire universe. For A level only, the Practical Endorsement will also support the development of practical skills.
The minimum academic entrance requirement for the Sixth Form for September 2024 is 6 Grade 9-4 GCSEs with at least 3 subjects at Grade 6 including English and Mathematics at Grade 4 or higher. We strongly advise that students have at least a GCSE Grade 6 in the subjects they will study at A Level GCSE Physics Grade 6 plus one other Science Grade 6, or GCSE Science Grades 6-6. All from the higher tier. Students must also study A Level Mathematics https://www.orleanspark.school/sixth-form/entry-2024
