The aim of Core RE is to continue to enrich and facilitate the spiritual development of the students at St Thomas Aquinas Sixth Form. Students will continue to receive lessons in Religious Education and will study and research ethical, political and religious issues in detail. The course offers both an academic and spiritual education. COURSE SUMMARY CORE RE is made up of Religious Education lessons and the opportunity to earn a Level Three Extended Project Qualification. CORE RE LESSONS: The Religious Education lessons cover a variety of subjects which will approach ethical, political and religious issues. Students will be able to research and develop their knowledge and practice skills of debating, analysis and critical thinking. They will look deeply at topics that have impacted society and religion throughout history and be able to express their views and create informed opinions. What is Extended Project (EPQ)? EPQ is an extended project qualification in which you will undertake research, planning and writing a dissertation of a topic of your choice. The topic needs to run alongside your A Levels or focus on something you intend to do in your future studies or career. What do I gain? E: Experience: You are able to practice and refine skills that will be invaluable when you study your degree. Your dissertation is the pinnacle point of your degree and is made up of intense research and study. EPQ allows you to develop these skills now allowing you to be even more ready to tackle your dissertation and independent study at degree level. P: Passion: The subject of the project is your choice, therefore you are able to pick a topic you love and enjoy doing. You can not only develop your knowledge and understanding of that topic but also your passion and love of the subject too. Q: Qualification: The EPQ qualification is worth 28 UCAS points which is half an A-Level. Many Universities really value the EPQ.
