Students of Religious Studies at A Level should master the powerful knowledge necessary to both excel in public examinations, hone written and oral skills, and become productive members of society who can live safe, happy and successful lives. Students are prepared for further study at university, and the workplace, through being given challenging reading on a weekly basis. Year 1 - A Level Philosophy of Religion • Arguments for the existence of God • Evil and suffering • Religious experience Ethics and Religion • Ethical theories • Issues of human life and death • Issues of animal life and death Study of Religion: Islam • Sources of wisdom and authority • God/gods/ultimate reality • Self, death and the afterlife • Good conduct and key moral principles • Expression of religious identity Year 2 – A Level Philosophy of Religion • Religious language • Miracles • Self and life after death. Ethics and Religion • Introduction to meta ethics • Free will and moral responsibility • Conscience • Bentham and Kant. Study of Religion Islam • Religion, gender and sexuality • Religion and science • Religion and secularisation • Religion and religious pluralism.
Must attain five 9 - 5 grades in full course GCSE subjects including Maths and English Language or Literature. No vocational subjects allowed to count in the five 9 – 5 grades. Indivdual subject critera also applies. English Language, Literature and Maths – 5 RE or other humanities subject or social science – 6 (RE preferred)
Composition of qualification: Two exam papers, duration of 3 hours each: • Written exam: 3 hours • 100 marks • 50% of A-level
