This one year, level 3, Creative Media Practice Animation, Gaming and Graphics qualification provides the knowledge, skills and understanding that will prepare you for further study or training. This course offers you the opportunity to develop your technical creative media skills over your course of study through a process of critical evaluation, practice and review, which are key skills for progression to higher education. The course also supports you to become confident in taking ownership of and responsibility for your creative media projects such as game design, animation, visual communication, digital media and media subjects. The qualification attracts UCAS Tariff points and meets the admission requirements for most relevant courses, such as games development, web/app, visual communication, digital media and media subjects. What you will study: You will study a variety of practical subjects that are part of one mandatory module, Exploring and Developing Creative Media Skills. This includes two units: • A1 Skills Development: Where you will explore key fundamentals of media practice, learning how skills are integrated and connect to generate developed outcomes • A2 Creative Project: you will apply the skills you have been developing throughout the programme to a creative project that demonstrates your ability to self-direct a response to a brief, from inception to completed product. Teaching content is divided into key areas, which correspond to the assessment objectives. • Moving image: To explore technical skills relating to areas such as film, television, video, animation and motion graphics. • Character and environment: To explore technical skills relating to areas such as virtual, immersive, augmented, sprite/character/avatar design, set design and construction, location, styling and art direction, props, costume and makeup. • Graphic and lens: You could explore technical skills relating to areas such as graphic design, publishing, illustration, concept art, photography. • Text: You can explore technical skills relating to areas such as graphics, typography, copywriting, web design. • Experience: To explore technical skills relating to areas such as games, VR, UI/UX, web, app, online, mixed reality and augmented reality. • Sound: You could explore technical skills relating to areas such as sound design, soundtrack, installation and sound effects in animation and game design.
4 GCSEs at grade 9-4 (A*-C), including English and Maths, or a Level 2 qualification (Merit or Distinction) in a related subject. Note: for skills-based qualifications you might need the skills at Level 2 in order to enrol onto the Level 3.
You will complete a range of creative production assignments to produce a portfolio of evidence. This qualification is assessed according to five criteria: • informing ideas, • problem solving, • technical skills, • professional practice • communication. Grading for this qualification will be at Pass, Merit or Distinction. Your learning will be assessed using a variety of styles to help you develop a broad range of transferable skills.
