Why study Art & Design? The main purpose of an Art and Design course is to develop students’ ability to engage with the visual world and respond in personal and creative ways. Whilst studying Art and Design at Holcombe Grammar School you will develop a variety of skills and a working knowledge of materials, practices and technology in different disciplines such as drawing, painting, textiles and digital photography, mixed-media and darkroom techniques. You will develop your imaginative and creative powers as well as experiment and analyse developing a deeper understanding of art and design in past and present times. A typical Art and Design student is independent and able to understand how to build on previous knowledge as well as having a growth mind Endorsements:- Fine Art Photography How will you be assessed? Component 1: Portfolio. 60% of the A Level. Component 2: Externally set assignment. 40% of the A Level What will Art & Design offer you in the future? Many students after completing their A Level in Art and Design move on to complete a foundation course before moving onto a creative degree of their choice. Future careers are wide and varied but could include: Architecture, advertising, marketing, graphic and motion design, game design, theatre and set design, fashion and textile design as well as publishing and the media. The study of Art and Design can also help you to develop transferable skills that you can take into any career.
