Course summary

The OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity introduces the sector for learners looking to build a career in sport, within one of its occupational areas. These areas include careers in exercise and fitness, coaching, leadership and sports development. This course provides a more practical, real-world approach to learning alongside a theoretical background, giving learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment. What the course will cover: Over the 2 years you will study the mandatory units: • Body Systems and the effects of physical activity. • Sports Coaching and activity leadership. • Sports Organisation and development. Optional Units: • Practical skills in sport and physical activity. • Organisation of sports events. These units will give you an understanding of sport in the wider contexts of coaching and leadership, anatomy and physiology, the body’s short and long term responses to physical activity and the framework of sport in the UK and the organisations involved. You will also develop transferable skills such as planning, communication, adaptability and leadership. The employer-endorsed course content is up to date and relevant, reflecting the blend of knowledge, practical skills, communication and team working skills needed to progress to further study or employment in the sector and beyond.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade 4 or above in PE, or Merit at Level 2 in a vocational qualification eg: OCR Level 2 Cambridge National in Sports Studies or Sport Science. Grade 4 or above in Maths and English at GCSE
