Course summary

Psychology is a science and is the study of brain and behaviour. We all have ideas about people and about ourselves, and psychology relates to those ideas but draws on scientific methods to build a body of knowledge about such issues. Psychology can be theoretical, looking at how the brain works and what drives our behaviour, including issues such as early childhood experiences and what happens to us as we develop. Psychology can be practical, such as in therapy and treatments as well as in the workplace, such as when devising advertisements or advising the police. Content: Unit 1: Social and Cognitive Psychology, Biological Psychology and Learning Theories Unit 2: Criminal Psychology and Clinical Psychology Unit 3: Methodology,Review of Studies and Debates in Psychology “Studying psychology in the sixth form/ college will not only ensure you stay up-to-date with current issues and also develop the facilities to critically analyse a range of issues.”

Entry requirements

GCSE Psychology will be useful but this is not a prerequisite for studying A2 Psychology. Students must have achieved a GCSE grade 4 in English Language.

How you'll be assessed

At A-level there are three exams, each account for one third of your A-level. The three exams last 2 hours and are worth 90 marks each. The exams consist of a mixture of short answer and extended writing questions.
