
Mathematics is a 2 year course following the Pearson Edexcel specification. Students taking the course need to be organised, determined and positive. They must be prepared to work independently during their study periods and take responsibility for comprehensive note-taking throughout the course. Students taking the course will have access to online versions of textbooks with worked examples and questions for students to use. Content: Each topic will be assessed with an end of topic test: Pure Mathematics 1&2 Topic 1 - Proof Topic 2 - Algebra and functions Topic 3 - Coordinate geometry in the x-y plane Topic 4 - Sequences and series Topic 5 - Trigonometry Topic 6 - Exponentials and logarithms Topic 7 - Differentiation Topic 8 - Integration Topic 9 - Numerical Methods Topic 10 - Vectors Statistics: Topic 1- Statistical Sampling Topic 2 - Data Presentation & interpretation Topic 3 - Probability Topic 4 - Statistical distributions Topic 5 - Statistical hypothesis Mechanics: Topic 6 - Quantities and units in mechanics Topic 7 - Kinematics Topic 8 - Forces and Newton’s Laws Topic 9 - Moments
Students should have at least a grade 7 or above at higher level and be from set 2 or above, due to the level of work studied in Mathematics at A level.
