
Year 12 students will follow a program of varied topics. These will range from portrait work, still-life studies through to landscape projects. Each project will begin with observational drawings, collecting visual resources, related art historical studies. This programme of study has been devised to enable each student to pursue varied avenues of exploration, and to build a portfolio of varied work The time allowed for each project is six weeks, on completion of these the students will under consultation with staff select a theme to explore for their study in Year 13. On completion of their studies, there is an end of course examination which is 15 hours in duration. The examination will be spread over three days and students have approximately fourteen weeks preparation prior to this, from a pre-release exam paper.
At least a grade 6 at GCSE Art and Design is required. Competence in basic design work and observation drawing is important.
Assessment: Personal Investigation: (01) - 120 marks 60% of total A level Non exam assessment project exploring a chosen theme. Alongside a 3000 work related study. Externally Set Task: (02) - 80 marks 40% of total A level 15 hour exam over three days
