Course summary

Biology is a popular subject taken by students with a wide variety of interests. It is the subject of the future. If you want to know the facts behind GMOs, human cloning and global warming, this is the subject to study. Instead of reading the hype, be informed! This course includes a significant amount of maths and biochemistry; it is a challenging and rewarding subject. Our advice is that GCSE Applied Science is not suitable preperation for A-level Biology. You will benefit from the following resources and facilities: three dedicated Biology labs with projectors and interactive whiteboards. specialist Biology teachers who share the A-level teaching. Science Sixth Form study room in the Science Block, equipped with computers. field course at Nettlecombe Court, Somerset in Year 13. A wide variety of teaching and learning styles are used including discussions, group work, model making, presentations, use of the internet to show biological animations of physiological processes, practical work and research. Students with an A-level in Biology have gone on to a wide variety of degree courses including Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Genetics, Environmental Studies, Medicine, Veterinary Studies, Forensics, Equine Studies, Horticulture and Agriculture, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Radiography and Law.
