The course consists of the following topics: 1. Applied anatomy and physiology 2. Skill acquisition 3. Sport and society 4. Exercise physiology 5. Biomechanical movement 6. Sport psychology 7. Sport and society and the role of technology in physical activity and sport
Students will need a strong mind for Science, Maths and Physical Education. The course is 70% academic and 30% practical. Students will need to excel in one sport as an athlete or coach and will need to have played this sport throughout key stage 3 and 4 so that they have a high skill acquisition. Student’s should possess a GCSE PE or BTEC level 2 qualification.
Paper 1: Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport (Written exam: 2 hours, 35% of A Level) Section A: Applied anatomy and physiology Section B: Skill acquisition Section C: Sport and society Paper 2: Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport (Written exam: 2 hours, 35% of A Level) Section A: Exercise physiology and biomechanics Section B: Sport psychology Section C: Sport and society and technology in sport NEA: Practical performance in physical activity and sport (30% of A Level) Students assessed as a performer or coach in the full sided version of one activity. Plus: written/verbal analysis of performance.
