Theme 1 Introduction to markets and market failure Theme 2 The UK economy – performance and policies Theme 3 Business behaviour and the labour market Theme 4 A global perspective Economics aim to develop students’ awareness of the world we live in. It relates to every aspect of our lives; from the choices we make as individuals or families to the structures created by governments and firms. Through the study of Economics, students will develop the ability to think logically, apply influential economic theories, critically evaluate information and communicate evaluative reasoning in a structured and coherent manner. The subject is divided between Microeconomics (Themes 1 and 3) Macro economics (Themes 2 and 4). Students will use economic theory to analyse current economic issues.
• Grade 6 in mathematics • Grade 6 in English OVERALL REQUIREMENT FOR POST 16 ▪ Five GCSEs at 9-4 (English and mathematics grade 4) ▪ A maximum of two BTECs at merit can count
Paper 1 will assess microeconomics and questions will be drawn from Themes 1 and 3. Paper 2 will assess macroeconomics and questions will be drawn from Themes 2 and 4. Paper 3 will assess content across all four themes. Students are required to apply their knowledge and understanding, make connections and transfer higher-order skills across all four themes.
