A Level French is essential preparation for degree courses which include this language; French can also be combined with a wide range of other subjects at university.
Students wishing to pursue an A Level programme must, in all but exceptional circumstances, have achieved 6 standard GCSE passes (grade 4-9), with a strong pass (grade 5 or higher) in at least 4. Students should also attain the subject-specific minimum grades in subjects relevant to those to be studied Grade 5 in French. Grade 4 in English Language at GCSE and at least one other literate subject.
30% oral examination/50% Listening, reading and translation/20% written examination
