
Business Level 2 Exam Board: NCFE Course leader: Mrs Taylor Course name: VCERT Business & Enterprise Contact: TAS@moseley.bham.sch.uk General Information This is a Level 2 business course which gives students an understanding of business and enterprise. The course shows learners what it takes to become an entrepreneur; the risks and, most importantly, the rewards of being an entrepreneur; how to research a new idea; how to market a new business; how to use social media; the finance, National Insurance and VAT for a small business and how to plan, develop and take part in at least one business or enterprise project. The qualification is equivalent in size to one GCSE. Course Outline You will complete 4 units of work. Three units are assessed internally as coursework portfolios and one is an externally assessed assignment. Unit 1: Introduction to business and enterprise – This unit aims to give learners an introduction to business and enterprise. It gives learners an introduction to start up projects and helps them to identify risks and rewards. Unit 2: Marketing for business and enterprise – This unit aims to give learners an insight into market research, and different marketing opportunities and techniques. This unit is assessed externally. Unit 3: Finance for business and enterprise – This unit aims to provide learners with a basic knowledge and understanding of business finance for a new business or enterprise. Unit 4: Plan, develop and participate in a business or enterprise project – This unit aims to develop a project plan and implement the project. The course will also help develop your employability skills including: team working – the qualification requires learners to work with others either on small tasks or during the final project task communication skills presentation skills – learners will learn to present their work to those around them in a suitable way and will also learn the most appropriate way of communicating as an entrepreneur use initiative – learners will learn what initiative is and why it is important for an entrepreneur or business person work independently – learners will understand how to work independently on specific task. Careers and Higher Education Opportunities The course can lead onto Level 3 studies in business or related disciplines, apprenticeship schemes or employment. Extra-curricular enrichment opportunities Weekly after school drop in sessions run within the Vocational Faculty ensure all Business students are fully supported throughout the course. A number of whole school enterprise projects will be run during the year with the opportunity for sixth form business students to be mentors for lower school entrepreneurs. Students will also plan and run their enterprise idea within school during the year.
