Course summary

The OCR Computer Science A-Level is a challenging 2 year course providing an in depth understanding of Computer Systems and Programming. The course is made up of 3 main units, two externally assessed exam assessments each worth 40%, and one Programming Project non-exam assessment worth 20% of the course. Why Study? Computer Science is a practical subject providing a wealth of in depth theory on Computer Systems and Programming. It enables the learner to not only look at computer systems and understand their inner workings, but also to create their own information systems to solve real world problems. The course provides an insight into the significance and relevance of computers, applications and communications in the work environment and everyday life. Computer Science knowledge can be applied to areas as diverse as manufacturing, education and medicine. What could I do next? Computer Science is offered by universities either as a subject in its own right or in combination with a wide range of subjects, e.g. Computer Science and Business; Computer Science and Engineering. The course is a gateway to the creative technology industries including games design and web development. The course could also lead to a higher level apprenticeship or industry specific professional qualifications and employment.
