The A level Product Design course has been specifically designed to encourage students to be able to design and make products which embrace creativity and originality, whilst also exploring the technical element of design and engineering. Throughout the course students will work with a wide range of materials and techniques to produce a number of final artifacts over the two year course. As an integral part of the course pupils will also be introduced to a number of different computer aided design programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Pro-Engineer, Solidworks, Tinkercad and 2D Design V2. These programs allow pupils with a keen interest in ICT and computer aided design to create detailed virtual models of their design ideas. Product Design is an engaging hands-on course and is based around the design and manufacture of everyday, commercially viable products. Pupils will build upon the knowledge that they have gained through studying GCSE Design & Technology. The course will allow pupils to demonstrate that they can perform in a creative and problem solving environment, work to deadlines and industry standards, communicate their ideas using a full range of CAD, CAM and IT equipment and presentation packages, think laterally, use their analytical skills and develop their knowledge & understanding of business and marketing. As part of the A’level Product Design course pupils will be taught all of the fundamental principles of design and manufacture which will enable students to go on to study a wide range of Degree level courses such as Product Design, Engineering, Architecture, Automotive design, Interior design, Model making, Set and stage design, Fashion and Textiles. In order to study Product Design A’level you must have a real interest in how the things around us work, as well as how and what they are made from. A Level Product Design requires both dedication and hard work to achieve success.
