Course summary

Physics is not just a collection of concepts and theories but rather a different way of challenging our imagination. With concepts ranging from the smallest subatomic particles to the whole Universe, this course will allow you to learn new ways of thinking on a journey to start to search for and explain the fundamental answers of the Universe. Physics is a practical subject and throughout the course, students will carry out a wide range of practical activities to develop their skills and understanding, and to prepare them to study a physics-based subject at university.

Entry requirements

Academy Entry Requirements for A Level pathway Grade 6 or above in the separate Science GCSE or grade 66 in Combined Science Students must also attain a grade 5 in Maths and English GCSE

How you'll be assessed

The A Level course lasts two years with three examinations at the end of the second year. Although there is no coursework, students’ performance during practical lessons will be assessed throughout the course. Paper 1 2 hour written examination largely on Year 12 work. Paper 2 2 hour written examination largely on Year 13 work. Paper 3 2 hour written examination on practical experiments and skills, data analysis and astrophysics.
