
A Level Physical Education builds on students’ experience from Key Stage 4 and GCSE to enhance their knowledge and increase their understanding of the factors that affect performance and participation in Physical Education. Students will develop knowledge and understanding of the changes within the body systems prior to exercise, during exercise of differing intensities and during recovery. They will learn to interpret data and graphs relating to changes within the musculo- skeletal, cardio-respiratory and neuro-muscular systems and the use of energy systems during different types of physical activity and sport, and the recovery process.
Academy Entry Requirements: A minimum of five GCSE grades 9 – 4. If you have studied a GCSE equivalent PE qualification you should have achieved a grade 5 or above, or a merit.
Students will sit all their exams and submit all their non-exam assessment at the end of the course. Paper 1 – Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport 2 hour written exam (35% of A-Level) Paper 2 – Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport 2 hour written exam (35% of A-Level) Non-exam assessment – Practical performance in physical activity and sport Students assessed as a performer or coach in the full sided version of one activity. (30% of A-level)
