Biology courses in the North East Consortium aim to stimulate, develop and sustain an interest in Biology. A good understanding of biological facts and principles will be developed, with particular emphasis on the human, social and applied aspects of the subject. Biology is the study of life, from the simplest organism to complex multi-cellular organisms. Starting from the basics of biochemistry and cell biology, students will build an understanding of how living systems work, and how sometimes they go wrong in disease. Students will also further develop their experimental skills when investigating a number of topics within the syllabus.
Students are assessed through external examinations at the end of year 1 and at the end of year 2. Students will be awarded a Practical Skills Endorsement at A level if they successfully complete the practical elements of the course.
