Course summary
Why should I study it? Economics is the study of people and why they make the choices they make. We view this from both a local and global perspective. We collect information and data to help us understand and make predictions about people’s behaviour in markets. You will study a wide range of topics. Some of these will look at local economics and others will think about economics and its implications on a global scale. Now is one of the best times to study Economics. It has always been a subject that doesn’t stop but now, it is a subject that doesn’t leave the news. You have constant exposure to the world of Economics and studying this course will make you aware of that. You will be thinking like an economist and you will find it difficult to think in another way. Course Content Year 12 Units • Theme 1: Introduction to markets and market failure • Theme 2: The UK economy – performance and policies Year 13 Units • Theme 3: Business behaviour and the labour market • Theme 4: A global perspective Career possibilities Career possibilities in Economics are endless. Although economics is not the study of financial markets or banking, it is not unusual for people to progress into that sector. Other people will move into areas of policy making, whether it be in a civil service or government position or in business organisations
