Course summary

Why should I study it? The course incorporates human, physical and practical skills modules as well as examining a range of contemporary geographical issues including global governance, water and carbon systems, hazards and urban issues. Students also develop their investigative, ICT, graphical, cartographical and statistical skills and will be able to improve their research skills and complete fieldwork activities. This is the course for you if you are: • Interested in the changing world around you and have a desire to develop your own values towards contemporary issues and challenges affecting the world today • A person with an enquiring mind who enjoys a challenge • Someone seeking an opportunity to develop a wide range of transferable skills Course Content Year 12 • Physical Geography - Water and Carbon Cycle • Physical Geography - Hot deserts • Human Geography - Changing Places, Contemporary Urban Environments • Geography fieldwork and geographical skills • Students must attend a 4 day residential to meet the fieldwork requirements of the AS and A level course Year 13 • Human Geography -Global systems and global governance • People and the Environment - Hazards • Independent investigation based on fieldwork possibilities Geography equips participants for an array of careers, ranging from consultancy and engineering to law, business, finance, marketing and media. Geography graduates are, statistically, the most employable people entering the workplace.
