Choosing the course: This is a holistic, vocational music course that is ideal for any rock or pop musician or someone who is looking to have a career in the music industry. It is a practical based syllabus, which develops students performing, composing, and listening, and music technology skills. This course is for students who just love popular music and want to know more about how it is created, how it is performed and how it is viewed in our society. The course will be delivered by Glenthorne Music staff but you will also receive workshops throughout the course from Glenthorne Alumni and Industry specialists which have included Josh Record (signed by Virgin Records) and Yves Fernandez (a professional bass session player who has toured with artists such as Jessie J) All students have the opportunity to have part-funded instrumental lessons which are taught by professionals. Places are granted through an audition. Course content: This course is equivalent to 1.5 A level qualifications where students can achieve the grades pass, merit, distinction and distinction*. Over the two years, students will complete 4 units. Module A Music Skills Development (made up of 3 units) • A1 Performing as an ensemble • A2 Creating musical material • A3 Using musical styles Module C The Music Industry Career Opportunities With this course, students will be equipped with the skills to gain entry onto a Degree course studying Music. Equally students may be equipped with the skills to enter into industry. Past students have gone on to study Music at the Institute of Contemporary Music, Bath Spa, Southampton, Chichester, Portsmouth, De Montfort, the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM), Brighton Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) and many more.
