Course summary

This course covers a broad period of dance history in the UK from 1966-the present day. This is covered in the compulsory set work and area of study (Rooster and Rambert Dance Company 1966-2002) and the optional set work and area of study (Sutra and The Independent Contemporary Dance Scene in Britain 2000-Now). Within both areas of study you will learn about a range of practitioners and works that demonstrate key features and development within the dance world. As well as this students develop and refine their core performance skills as a dancer both in group and solo situations. These tasks are also developed to expand and consolidate the theoretical study of dance styles and practitioners. The final element of assessment is choreography. Throughout year 1 students will refine their understanding of choreographic devices and development before undertaking an externally set choreographic task for assessment in year 2.
