Drama and Theatre is an exciting and thought-provoking practical subject which will engage any student interested in the art form. The course allows students to consider Theatre from a variety of perspectives; a director, designer and actor; allowing them to develop both practical and theoretical skills. Students will study a wide range of current theatre practitioners to encourage them to develop their own theatrical style and interest. It also provides an opportunity to engage with interesting play texts with an aim to develop an interpretation through practical exploration. Of course, this course will help lead to a career in performance arts and media roles such as Actor, Director and Presenter but it also offers great skills for many other subjects. All client facing roles such as Police, Teacher, Lawyer, Agent and Journalist would benefit from the skills developed as would several roles in business where your ability to express your ideas and put them forward with confidence are required. These skills are equally applicable to community roles where you would be required to build confidence with people and express yourself eloquently. Eloquent and well-considered written responses will be produced to support the practical work, allowing students to fully determine the purpose and function of their own theatrical style and interpretations. The course will appeal to committed students who are enthusiastic about performing on stage and interested in producing responses to current theatrical styles and scripts.
6 in GCSE Drama. If you have not studied Drama for GCSE, you will need to have an audition to assess your suitability for the course as well as achieving a 6 in GCSE English.
1 exam, performance and portfolio, group performance and monologue/duologue
