A level Mathematics provides a framework for students to develop key mathematical and problem-solving skills needed for several university courses and careers. It introduces calculus, data handling, modelling techniques and many other important topics that help prepare students for courses such as Mathematics, Computing, Engineering, Economics, Finance and Physical Sciences. It emphasises how mathematical ideas are interconnected and how mathematics can be applied to model real-life problems, using algebra and other representations. It also covers the statistical techniques and concepts needed to make sense of data, understand the physical world and be able to solve problems in a variety of contexts, including Social Sciences and Business. Students taking A-level Mathematics need a very good understanding of the algebra topics covered at GCSE. This includes quadratic equations, simultaneous equations, factorising all kinds of quadratics, quadratic inequalities, curve sketching, gradients and equations of lines, sequences and proofs.
