Course summary

Politics is a challenging A level which asks students to engage in a critical discussion with modern global issues. In this course students will investigate classic political ideology from Liberalism, Conservatism and Socialism as well as the structure of UK government and parliament and the influence this has both on our daily life and overall political landscape. In their second year of 6th Form, students will also undertake a critical enquiry into the changing nature of global politics, examining how America compares to the UK as well as relationships between the two. Politics is a subject that requires a consistent and dedicated student - one who will engage with the news and day to day developments around the world, but also one who is interested in how these process happen and the wider implications of them. Students who wish to study this course should have a high standard of formal written English and be interested in the nature of how this country is run and its relationship with others. An A level in this area will be a clear indication of the dedication of a student and is useful for anyone looking for further education in Politics, History, Philosophy, Law, Sociology and Economics. Politics has clear careers pathways into politics itself, but also into law, journalism, the civil service and more. When choosing to study Politics it is worthwhile to consider subjects which work well together. Success in these subjects often come when students study Politics with another humanity subject or English, giving them the ability to focus on their essay writing and analysis across the breadth of their subjects.
