
A level Design and Technology Product Design helps students take a broad view of design and technology, developing their capacity to design and manufacture products. Students will be shown complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and in order to better understand the world around us. This creative and thought-provoking qualification gives students the practical skills, theoretical knowledge and confidence to succeed in a number of careers especially those in the creative industries and STEM. CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design and Manufacture) will feature heavily within the course allowing students to experiment with a wide range of software and machines such as 3D printers and laser cutters. Students will investigate historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic influences with design, whilst enjoying opportunities to put their learning into practice. Students will gain a real understanding of what it means to be a designer, alongside the knowledge and skills sought by further education and employers.
6 in a GCSE Design Technology Course. If you have not studied a suitable subject at GCSE you will be required to complete a piece of work for us to assess your suitability for the course.
